Artisans of Morocco: Hands That Inspire
10 September 2026 · 1 min read

A single AZRO caftan can take between 40 and 120 hours of hand work. Behind those hours are artisans in Fès, Marrakech and Casablanca who learned their craft from their parents and grandparents.
The maâlem
In Moroccan tradition a maâlem is a master who has earned the right to teach. Our maâlems lead small workshops where apprentices learn sfifa braiding, aakad buttons and hand embroidery.
Fair work, lasting skills
We work directly with our workshops, pay per piece at fair rates and plan collections far enough ahead that artisans are never rushed. Good craft needs time.
A living heritage
Every time you wear an AZRO piece you keep those skills alive. That is what we mean by a living heritage.
